Editing home video from DVD disk

Hello, I have the following problem, I have a home video that was originally in super 8 (I think that's what they are called). Anyways, my brother in law got them into a DVD (a friend did it for him). Now I would like to somehow transfer it to my computer, and edit the movie, to either have my in-laws do some voice-overs and add titles, that sort of stuff (the movies are really old, no sound, and by editing, the grandkids would be able to know who is who in the movie). Anyways, I know how to do basic video editing (either with Studio or Adobe Premiere, I have both), the problem is how to get this movie into my pc. I tried it with Flask MPeg, and it seems to convert the files, but Studio and Adobe Premiere are not able to open the files. I have no idea of what I'm doing wrong. I also have DVD shrink in my computer, and Nero, if that is of any help. I would appreciate any input, I'm really stuck on this one. Thanks a lot, CAssia
