I have been using Nero Recode2 for a while now together with AnyDvd. I have just burned The Bourne Supremacy which has a little spoken Russian with English subtitles. The strange thing is, on the copy the subtitles do not show. Can anyone help as to why this should happen?

You need to take ALL the English subtitles, not just the first stream - there will be a little subtitle stream, usually down the bottom, sometimes identified as "forced", but always a lot smaller than the others. This is the foreign language stream.
Also, do NOT remap stream numbers (in DVD Shrink this is called Logical Remapping of Enabled Streams).

Good luck - test it in a software player and then an RW to make sure.

G'day Les,
I have had success re the subtitles appearing on my copies. I used a RW to experiment with so that I didn't waste a disc. But what I did different this time was, on the Nero ReCode2 screen I used 'Copy entire DVD' option. The only reason that I haven't used this option before is, I didn't want any unwanted junk like trailers and Ads etc. so I have always used 'Recode main movie to DVD' option. The thing that I forgot was 'AnyDvd' from Slysoft.com takes care of this and eliminates trailers etc. before you import. The only thing that still puzzles me is, why would the subtitles not appear when I have used the option that I have been using up to now.
I hope all this makes sense. Regards, John.JohnComment

Hi John,
The thing is (with both Copy Entire DVD or Recode Main Movie to DVD) you should see the subtitle streams, something like this:
1. English - 5Mb
2. English - 6Mb
3. - 8. Other languages - 5Mb
9. English - 1Mb
1 & 2 will be the main English subbies - if there are two of them about the same size, then the slightly larger one will be "English for the hearing impaired", which is the same as regular subbies but also adds stuff like ("door slams" and "weird instrumental music" etc etc etc).
But it is stream 9 in this example that is of interest. It's the tiny English stream that represents your foreign language speak. Often this is labelled as "forced", but not always.
For a good example, see this thread, which discusses logical remapping of enabled streams in DVD Shrink, but covers much of the ground we are discussing here.
Now, the important thing for you in the future is to make sure your profile, as far as subbies go, is set to English and "Select all tracks if none meet my criteria". And to make sure you don't miss those little English streams.
RegardsLes

Hi Les,
You are a star, you have made things very clear to me now, I am a newbie to this, but the info you have given me this time around has been more than helpful, I cannot thank you enough.
By the way I lived in Brisbane for 14 years. I returned in 1994.
Best wishes, JohnJohnComment

subtitles
Hi Les,
It's me again. I have had that subtitle problem again using Recode 2. I copied Star Wars and because there is some alien lingo spoken it's covered by subtitles. But once again, on the copy no subtitles appear. I did tick the English boxes only before I did the copy.
Now here is a strange one, as an experiment I did the same procedure with DVD Shrink and also Clone DVD. Would you believe both copies came out the same as the original. I just don't understand why Recode 2 doesn't do the same.
Can you help and are there any other settings that I need to adjust.JohnComment
