But (sorry for that) I think your advice to use the different settings based on percentage is very subjective.

I don't know where (the link) but I think it was blutach who wrote something about this (religious) percentage topic.
Percentage is relative (unimportant).
The question is:
What is the final video bitrate on DVD5 ?

My (subjective) opinion is, that there is only one setting for all kind of backup situations: Maximum Sharpness !

Here is a little test to convince you:
Take a short peace of interlaced material (video, for examples music video DVDs) and use manual 60 percent compression ratio with 'maximum smoothness' and 'maximum sharpness'.
Burn these two short titles to a DVD+RW and watch it on your DVD-Player (TV).

The author of DVDShrink (now working for Ahead Nero Recode) told that the names of the 4 different AEC settings were given subjective and that these names are misleading.

'Maximum smoothness' sounds theoretical good, but it does not work in practice.
It leads to massive blocking artifacts (especially if your source is grainy and noisy).

Use the AEC method you prefer (subjective).

My advice: 'Maximum Sharpness' for all situations !!!
I know hundreds of users who use this and agree that it produces superior output quality.

It's your private choice.

Michi90, its not my advice. A guy here on the Forum called "nwg" suggested those settings.

When I posted this registry trick in afterdawn forum my intention was to get a full functional inofficial DVDShrink 4 and finally the maximum output quality of its transcoding engine.

Call me Mr.MaximumSharpness if you want, but I still believe from
the bottom of my heart (or my eyes) that the 3 AEC settings
'maximum smoothness', 'smooth' and even 'sharp(default)' are more
or less not working the way they should and produce bad quality.

Did some searches and it seems that the .exe generator can trick some trojan alterter to think that it is a trojan. Noted this on another script for some time ago that was put in an .exe also - but there where nothing tricky in that program.

Latest versions

In the latest versions has changed the location of "CompressMode"
the actual location is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Recode\Preferences

Could be possible edit the little program to that adress?

FAQ AEC options in Nero Recode 2

No, it only does Nero digital.

Plenty of ways to use Nero to do AAC/HE AAC encoding. Then just encode your XviD as usual using VDubMod and use the 3ivX directshow muxer to mux the aac and AVI video into an mp4 container. Even with bframes, you should get native files if you use the 3ivX muxer. If you arent using bframes then you could try something like MP4UI.
