Hi all. I updated my nero so i could have a go at recode2 and compare its speed to dvdshrink. I downloaded dvd43 free version and read the how to guide on this forum. When i press import dvd i get a message saying "this dvd is copy protected", even tho dvd43 is running. I tried with another dvd and got the same message. I let the dvd play for a minute then tried again, no luck. So ..whats up? Both movies were region 2, and as far as i know not troublesome movies.
first recode2 burn failed

I know that there is some problems with that program and region code 2 discs - but nwg can use it so it should work.
Using latest ver 3.5.3?
Tried this:
IF YOU GET ERRORS USING DVD43:
1: Before you begin copying a DVD, close DVD43 by clicking on the smiley face in the task bar and select the 'Close' menu item.
2: Insert the movie you want to copy, play it using your software DVD player for about 1 minute, then close the software DVD player.
3: Start DVD43 (click the Start button, select 'All Programs' and select 'DVD43') and let DVD43 detect the movie and turn green.
4: Start your DVD copy software. If you still get an encrypted DVD error, reboot your computer - DVD43 is temperamental sometimes.Comment

The link suggests everything i have tried except the uninstall/ reinstall. After reading ravenshield exp's post about aopen ( which i have and was using to read the dvd), i swapped the disc to my dvd writer drive and pressed import. I got an error message saying " failed to open file e, the parameter is incorrect) If the uninstall/reinstall doesnt work i think ill give up, dvdshrink always worked for me and i just wanted to compare speeds. Thanks for the help.Comment

Check my thread here as well, i been at this for a few days and it seems us AOpen 1648 owners will have to wait for a Recode 2 update, i have emails with my progress sent to the Nero support staff and will update with any news i obtain.

Yeh, ive been reading your post and after reading it was wondering if the problems were connected. It would be nice to do a comparison burn with recode and shrink. Ill look out for your updates, hope you get your problem sorted!!Comment

I've already done serveral comparison burns using my PX716's, and found Recode to be just a tad faster ( under a minute), but the qualilty does seem to be visable on HDTV and with DVDS out of business, so to speak, Recode will become MUCH better very shortly from what i've read. I just hate reading on these expensive drives, i already put an order in for the new Lite on rom.Comment
