    Write error

    Hey all,

Great forum…I have been reading through and received a bunch of great info.

One question, I recently got my first DL Burner…a Sony 720A. Have the latest firmware and am using Maxell 8X DVD-R discs. I also purchased Nero Ultra 6 and updated to 6.6 (also updated Recode).

Using DVD43free I successfully ripped Gladiator, stripped off all audio tracks (save DTS), menu and features. It created a Video_TS folder, etc. Then it began to burn and I received a "write error" about 1 ½ minutes into the burn…this happened twice in a row.

Is this a common problem in the latest version of Recode? Am I providing enough info to allow for an informed response?

    Regards,

    Rob

2 possible problems. The disc you are backing up from is scratched, or the dvd has encryption that dvd43 cant decrypt. EDIT scratch that. forget i said it. does the film play from your harddrive without any problems?

Yes...it played fine in WMP. I tested it. I haven't tried to burn the Video_TS files with another program yet...I know the discs and burner work fine as I have already burnt an image file through Nero.

The problem happens when the burn begins....not during the "rip" stage....my first thought is maybe an incompatibility with my player but I have the newest firmware and I heard that Recode likes Sony drives....

Post your nero log, it will provide more info. It may be a media problem, but they generally happen towards the end of burning, and if its genuine maxell thay are usually good. What speed are you burning at?

I was burning at 8x (11000 kb/s). I doubt it is the media, as well. Like I said, I burned a few things fine outside of Recode.

I am buying a DVD-RW disc tonight to use as a guinea pig till I straighten this out…if the error duplicates, I will post the log. Before I try again, I am going to try completely uninstalling Nero and performing a clean install.

I just thought I would check if there were any glaring issues with the latest version of Recode before going to more drastic measures…

Thanks in advance for the help!

            OK...I found out my problem.

I can't believe I didn't think of it at first. When I added my new burner...it wasn't recognized in full Ultra DMA. It was PIO. I uninstalled the controller, rebooted...and presto. I can now make DVD backups.

            I feel so dumb!

Thanks to everyone for the help!
