    New to Recode/Digital

I just encoded an 8 gig mpeg2 file to mp4 with recode. All I've read is that it is faster than DVD shrink. Maybe I'm talking apples and oranges but recode took over 4 hours to convert the file. Is that right?

To compare Shrink with Recode, you need to compress the DVD to fit on a DVD -/+ with Recode. Don't use Nero Digital as that is not what Shrink does.

On my tests, Recode is about 25% faster than Shrink.

I guess my question is should it take 4 hours to convert a mpeg2 file to mpeg4?

Depends on the computer spec and if you did more than one pass. Doing two passes will double the time.
