    Can recode do this?

I'm told that Nero encode will allow you to take one or more DVD's & recode them using DIVX or MPEG4 codec's & still retain chapter points & subtitles? Is this correct?

Can you use any codec with Nero? Are there any oher programs that will allow you to do the same thing like Uleads DVD Movie Factory4?

You can only use Nero's own so called Nero Digital Codecs (not DivX, Xvid or whatever) !

There are 2 Nero Digital Codecs:

    Nero Digital (MPEG4/H263)
    Nero Digital AVC (MPEG4/H264)

To watch those files with a standalone-DVD-player you need one which has a 'Nero Digital' (for MPEG4/H263) or better a 'Nero Digital AVC' certified logo.
You can't watch Nero Digital (though it's a kind of MPEG4 ASP) with players which support DivX (5), Xvid or MPEG4, because Nero uses a special audio-format and a special container mp4 (not AVI) !

The new DivX6 also supports chapters and subtitles (even menu-structures ?).
But to watch those movies you need a standalone-DVD-player certified for DivX6 (DivX 5 certification is not enough).
Instead of asking questions (waiting for answers and getting older) you better download the trial-versions of Nero Vision 3 (the whole Nero 6 package) and DivX6 and get your answers much quicker.

From my personal point of view, forget all these new codecs.
Use Recode or DVDShrink 3.2 for transcoding DVD9 to DVD5 and you will never run in trouble with compatibility.
