    Just a quick update.

I've abandoned Recode completely. I've had no additional problem burning since going back to Shrink.

    Thanks

Glad to hear Shrink is working for you. I thought I posted something since your previous post.. must be out in the ether somewhere.. I still haven't tried Recode, but have read alot about it, it's only real advantage appears to be speed, but that is nowhere near as significant as you suggested using similar settings, more on the order of 5% to 10%. Some people also think that Recode actually sacrifices some quality to gain that speed advantage.

If you're interested in quality vs speed, another program worth a look is DVD Rebuilder, since it does true re-encoding vs the transcoding of Shrink it is alot slower, but the quality can't be beat.

I know I read about "jitters", (what's the word), throughout playback of compressed areas and they were evident using Recode on my Panasonic but not so much on my Apex. I really haven't noticed that using Shrink.

Not really able to quantify it, I thought Recode was much faster, maybe 2x or more.

I dont get the jitters or anything while using recode everything works fine on my DVD players. At first I thought recode was a joke because my movie came out funny looking since I am a noob at this I didnt put in to consideration that the sopranos was almost 8 gigs it does other movies great.I think recode does a better job then shrink with picture quality

The big problem was that it would always fail at different places during the write. When I first started using it, I thought it seemed okay, so that's still a mystery to me. As far as I know I had it set up correctly, and the write speed was slowed to 4x.

After about 6 successes with Shrink, I had one failure immediately when I bumped up the write speed. I set it to 4x and it worked reliably again.
