Yes this is a regular mpeg-1 file. I used downloaded the movie onto mycomputer from my VCR via Adaptec's USB Videoh! device and would like to use Nero to cut out the commercials.

      Thanks,

well in my opinion nero isn't good for anything but burning. this is what i do for all my mpg caputures to edit commercials, in fact i'm doing one right now.

download and install tmpgenc (free version)

        1. go to file/mpeg tools/merge-cut.
        2. choose mpeg-1 video cd
        3. click "add", load your file
        4. click "edit"
a window pops up and use the slider and the "mark in" and "mark out" brackets, click ok, select "run"

this is so easy, i'm editing commercials out of my cheers captures and a half hour episode takes me only a few minutes to do....

LOL got me it seems like to much work to cut the commercials out you have to admit $25 a season isn't bad WalMart. Its a lot cheaper then what I had to pay for the Sopanos series

i don't mind. i enjoy doing it. it really has become so mundane, i don't even have to think! takes only a few minutes per episode.

Is version 2.5 considered the "basic version"? When I invoke the program I get a message saying that my trial version has expired. If not, how do I get the "basic version"??

                    Thanks,

that's ok. with the trial version expired now all you are left with is mpeg-1 conversion abilities which is all you need here. you have the right one.

Thanks for the help Columbo! Seems like I was able to edit the file correctly and pretty easily and there is no "Ad" in the middle of my movie, but I was only able to see video, there was no audio with the file. What's up?? Did I miss something?? I selected MPEG-1 Video CD when I hit 'Run'. was that correct??

                        Thanks,

hmmnn, no audio after the editing? might try raising the direct show filter.

To change the priority of DirectShow, this is done simply by clicking option - environmental setting. Click the VFAPI plug-in tab. You will see DirectShow in the list usually with a priority of -1. Right click on the NAME (not the priority) and click higher priority until the priority is 2 and it is at the top of the list

DirectShow was already at the top of the list with a priority of 2. What else could it be?? My original file (with the commercials) plays with the audio on my computer using InterVideo 4, but the edited movie has no audio using InterVideo 4.

                            Thanks,

play the edited file with media player classic, see if it has sound. just google it. it's free and will play dvd's and just about anything. i rec highly you keep it.
