If I was going to make a copy of a copy, I would use Nero too (on the fly).

I only used that as an example to eliminate AnyDVD from the equation to test for that error from the second drive.

I'd pitch the liteon and buy another burner, have you tried burning a test dvd
with cdspeed and doing a read test with the liteon?
If you can buy a good burner for 45$ what a used dvd-rom drive worth?

Both my drives are fine, never had a problem. As I said, DVD Shrink works fine using both drives.

Here are a couple of quotes from the CDFreaks forum (not written by me) about this same issue.

"Newest version of Nero (Recode) is 7.0.1.2. Beware, you must read and write from the same drive unlike Nero 6 when you could utilize two drives. A quote from a Nero tech: "It is an known issue when using 2 drives, one as the source the other
as the destination, the (burn) drive will fail. Use only the DVD-Recorder as the
Source and Destination Drive to resolve your issue."

"Maybe the version number of Nero recode hasn't changed but they have definitely made a change (maybe cause it's Nero 7) since you can no longer use two drives as I found out the hard way. Nero tech says an update of Nero will be released soon but he doesn't know if the two drive situation will be resolved. The problem didn't exist in the latest update to Nero 6 Ultra."
