Recode layer break problem to be aware of...

Hello Cynthia and everyone. I am new here.

Firstly, thank you for your excellent guides Cynthia.

Now I can't find a solution to this anywhere on the web. Perhaps some of you would like to look at it. I'd be really pleased to get the the bottom of it. Thanks.

Is this a Nero bug? What can I do?

I have found this is why my copies stutter and fail half way through playing. How can I put this right? I like Nero Recode but...

How do you turn off layer 2 when creating an NRG image with Recode?

Formerly, in earlier versions when creating a nrg image for a dvd-5, recode would make a single layer image for the single layer disc. Now with v.2.2.6.17 of Recode, when burning a to a dvd-5, the second layer (a blue indicator is shown) starts at about 50 percent.

The problem is when you burn the nrg image to a dvd-5 and then watching on a standalone there is a jump when viewing at, I suppose, a layer break. In the earlier versions there was no blue indicator showing the second layer being burned nor was there a jump at the 50 percent mark.

I have the layer break and PUOP's ticked for removal in the options. I am not burning to DL DVD's... just single layer.

It is as though a layer break is inserted when the progress bar shows a blue second layer burning.

Can you post a Ner0 log please? Sounds more like a burning issue.

Well. It sure appears it is inserting a LB pause in the VTS. Strange. Could be a bug, yes. Notify Ner0. While you're at it, let them know that Frist is not a word (though it could be a good name for an orange juice).

Workaround: Output to DVD Files (IFO/VOB/BUP). Open the output in PgcEdit and check that LB is removed in the main title. Make an ISO (File - Burn) and burn with your fave burning application (eg ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter).

Afterthought: Maybe you have your Ner0 burning ROM set to insert a LB?

        Regards

          LOL. Yes I noticed "Frist".

Nero haven't replied to my email already sent. Maybe others might try tellling them about this possible bug.

The above log is one for where I made an NRG image from files (VOB, etc) which were extracted from a DVD to the hard drive by DVDFab Decrypter.

The log below is for Nero Recode extracting direct from an unencrypted DVD to an NRG file.

This log is different, but "writing layer 2" still comes up while Recode is working and the progress bar changes to a lighter blue at that point.

Should I take it that the log is right and there is no layer break in this method?

"This log is different, but "writing layer 2" still comes up while Recode is working and the progress bar changes to a lighter blue at that point.

Should I take it that the log is right and there is no layer break in this method?"

            See above. Any ideas?

Is there still a "jump" on the dvd when viewing on a standalone player when using this method?

I've only tried Recode once (usually use DVD Shrink) and while I saw the "writing layer 2" blue progress bar show up, I didn't notice any weirdness during playback on my standalone. The version I used was </virtual>2.2.7.6 and updated to 2.2.8.5 today - will experiment tomorrow with this version to see if the bug is still there. You may also want to update to the latest version as well since the version you're using was released way back in July 7, 2005.

Until this problem is confirmed, I don't want to waste any discs/time making backups with Recode.

Ok, I updated to Nero 7.0.8.2 and it includes version 2.2.8.5 of Recode in the package. Making sure the "remove layer break" box is checked, I tried backing up a movie just to see what happens.

As you can see, it still burns layer 2 even though I am backing up into a single layer disc. I didn't save the log but I did see the "recording layer 2" line. I'm not sure if this example had any playback problems since I didn't bother to burn it onto a blank dvd.

I guess it's back to DVD Shrink for me for the time being. Hope this helps.
