STUPID QUESTION about Nero Recode to ISO...

And now for what may be the stupidest "Recode" question of 2006.......

All I want to know is how to go straight from shrinking with Nero Recode to an ISO image to save on my hard disk. It seems like it wants to either save as actual files, or burn directly to my DVD drive. All I want is the ISO image on the hard drive. Any way to do this?

I am able to do it fairly easily in one step with DVDShrink, but I like encoding with Recode much better.

Take the files and burn with PgcEdit and ImgBurn.

When using Nero Recode choose Image Recorder from the drop down list of recorders.

Better yet follow blu's advice.

To fill in on Zero G's answer:

When you select Image Recorder it will ask you for a file name. Simple put an .iso in the end of that file name and you should have your .iso file.

Thanks for all the great answers. One more question for Cynthia: I noticed that when I go to "image recorder" it wants to output an .NRG file. Is it really safe to change the file extension in the title to .ISO or will this cause burning problems later??

NRG is Ner0's form of ISO image. Ner0 can burn it (not that I would use it).

I have never tried to burn such an .iso from Nero with ImgBurn. You could try to create such an .iso and then burn it to a RW discs.

It's also a little odd with Nero Recode. Atleast with Nero 6 if I remember it right. Some of the output selections had .iso format as option.

I will "guinea pig" it and see if it causes any undesirable effects on a burn and I'll post back here when I'm done with results....thanks!

Bad news folks...it's no good. Even if the file extension is saved as .ISO, only NERO is able to burn it. It cannot be burned by any other progs including ImgBurn...It won't even open in DVDshrink....seems like the structure of an NRG file is different than an ISO. Oh well, back to converting to ISO using PGCEdit/DVDShrink/DVD2ISO....

ImgBurn can certainly burn an NRG. See Tools -- Settings
