    Screen Ratio?

Just a quick question as I cannot find any information on it. Does DivX (5.02 specifically) support screen ratios like MPEG1 and 2 does? I'd rather encode vidcaps @ 352x480, but I haven't been able to find out if DivX allows screen ratios like the other mpeg variants do.

It doesn't, at least not when stored using the avi fileformat. I'am not sure if there are aspect ratio flags in the mp4 file format spec, but it doesn't really matter since audio and player support for that format is very limited.

Of course there is nothing wrong with encoding a clip using a stretched aspect ratio using divx5 or any other format. As long as you take note of the aspect ratio used, and use a player that can dynamically stretch a picture durring playback.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

Nearly every resolution is allowed, but if you want to display an other aspect-ratio than 4:3 you will need a special player that allows to change the ar. BSPlayer supports ini-files where you can store the ar-value, but then you can only play the video in that player.

I just noticed that the DivX Player packaged with 5.02 allows you to change aspect ratios. Sould do for now, but I really wish the file format itself could "tell" the player how to display the video. Maybe in a future revision, especially if it goes mainstream.
