Virtualdub Audio Conversion Problem

I am using Virtualdub and trying to compress the audio track on a file with PCM (uncompressed) audio. I have followed all the instructions available everywhere, set the audio to be compressed to "MPEG Layer 3", the program runs, and the file still reads "PCM (uncompressed)!

What am I doing wrong?

1) Have you possibly forgotten to set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"?

2) Are you CERTAIN that, after VirtualDub has completed the conversion, you're looking at the NEW file and not the ORIGINAL file?
