Is there a tool which can determine how many channels are in an AC3 file?

I have used DVD2AVI to extract AC3 streams. It gives me the option of using a 2.0 stream or a 5.1. Is there a tool which can tell how many channels are within an .AC3 file?

Is there also a tool which can play them back? When I extract the audio, I never know if the language is the one that I want. Since I buy DVDs in France, sometimes French is the first track, sometimes it is English. Is there a tool which will allow me to play back a small portion of the AC3 file to determine language content?

I have used GSPOT with the final AVI and it correctly tells me it is AC3 audio, but that is it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

If you (just for enough time to read the information) use Flask v.0.594 to "Open DVD", you'll see an information listing which includes the language of each audio track.

If you then complete all of the necessary setup steps in order to have Flask start converting the DVD, you'll see a "progress" screen, which includes (on the left side of the screen) a description of the TYPE of audiostream (5.1, 2.0 Stereo, etc.) being extracted...
