Virtualdub stops encoding @ frame 9995

Same Problem here

Hi

i have the same problem here. Encoding stops exactly at 9995 frames and VirtualDub crashes...

I spent a long time with experimenting with various options and encoding techniques - i came to this:

VirtualBub crashes only, if I use audio compression.
All combinations with video codecs (divx5,xvid,cinepak,vp3) and external wav or uncompressed PCM worked fine.
But at the moment i enable audio compression with any kind of encoder (FH MP3, LAME, MPG3 from Creative, MS Audio v1 or v2), VirtualDub will most surely crash; even with direct stream copy from a valid avi file.

I have tried several versions from 1.4.7-1.4.10. Seems that versions <1.4.8 don't work with modern codecs at all and 1.4.9+ have that problem here.

Config:
2x AMD Athlon MP 1800+
Tyan Tiger S2644
512 ECC DDR Ram at 266
RadeonVE Graphics
SB Live 5.1
Win2k english, all latest drivers
IDE

Error MSG see above...

hope someone finds a solution, the only thing to get it working is to split the movies in parts <9000 frames, encode and reassemble them.
This is getting really ugly

You're not alone.
I posted this same problem earlier and got no replies. But thanks for the tip on audio compression. If I used direct stream copy from an mp3 in nandubit shoudnt crash it should it?

Found a way to get around it

Yeah, i found a way to get around this with NanDub.

This is what i do:
* save the wav from video to extra file with VirtualDub
* encode the video with no audio
* encode the audio with external prg, i use CdEx1.5
* assemble audio and video with nandub

Works best for me as i can't always rely on audio in nandub...

i found a better way to handle the problem by my own.....
I found out that every MP3 codec i installed isn`t displayed in virtual dub ! so i go on and deleted Radium and lame ! there were still TWO codecs remaining ! the one from Windows (which is loccked to 8Khz or so) and another one called "MP3" ! This one was installed by creative and and is software locked to handle not more than 9995 frames in one file ! It also blocks every other MP3 Codec i installed ! So here is how to fix:
search for ctmp3*.* and delete what you find ! then go on installing radium again and it works perfekt ! And now you get also better encoding rates ! with the creative one i had loosy 11 Frames per second and now i have up to 50 !!!

Thanks for the tip, problem is solved here too....
I just deleted "ctmp3*.*" from windows/system32 directory and all worked fine.

Encoding runs smooth and steady now. Damn Creative thingy, it never asked me to install itself or said that it was limiting software of any kind.

How did u find out about that limitation of the Creative codec?

Oh, btw, forgot this on my previous post.
I noticed that the ctmp3 files are mostly relating to the nomad device. I guess Creative needed this codec there to send the files to the nomad player?
Maybe thats why they imposed a 9995 frame limit, depending on how long 9995 frames is equal to. (length in seconds)
I'm not sure, but this sure is interesting.
