How can I get TMPEG to get sound from Divx AVI's?

I really like TMPEG its seems to be a very comprehensive software for being freeware. But the fact that I cant get audio of my Divx coded AVI's is a real pain. I did see a previous post about a similar problem but I really dont want to take the time to strip the sound off the AVI's. Mainly I fear there might be some kind of sync problem. So I guess what I am getting at is there any way at all that I can add a decoder or a similar freeware that works as good and gives me as many options. I have tried alot of others but they just arent as deep as I need for the project I am doing. I would really appreciate any help.

    My problem.

Unfortunately, if the audiostream is in either .AC3 or VBR-.MP3 format, you'll just have to make the effort...

Well I figured that I have already started. I am using Virtual Dub to rip the sound as wav. Do you have any better suggestions?
