    GordianKnot Question

I rip my dvd's to the hdd so size isnt really a matter, (around 2gb a movie is fine)
There is an option in GordianKnot where you select 1cd,2cds or 3cds.. If I select 3cds will it split the movie into 3 700mb parts? I really only want one big avi file if thats possible??

    Gordon Knott

If i am not mistaken, and i could be. in the same box as the cd choice option. there is a dropdown box that you can choose the output video size for the file you are making. if you choose the largest it will output the file in one large file

Instead of doing that you can just select 'Calculate AVI filesize' instead of 'Calculate average bitrate', in the upper right corner of the bitrate tab. This will let you enter any bitrate you want directly.

But of course if you really don't care about filesize, there is no reason to use 2-pass encoding. You can just do a 1-pass qualitybased encoding at 100%. You can't do this directly with GordianKnot, after saving the avs file in GordianKnot, you need to load the avs file into virtualdub, select video->'Fast recompression' and video->compression, to configure the encoding.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

        Thx for the replys

So I load the 2kb .avs file into virtual dub or do I encode the entire movie with Gordian Knot first and open that with vd?
Loading the 2kb file seems to work but I have no sound??

Sorry im a but of a noob when it comes to this stuff

Can I compress a .wav to .mp3 in VitualDub?
I opened up the 2kb .avs file and the 1.1gb .wav file I made from the .AC3 File. I chose the max video bitrate but the files gets far to big, I wanna make the audio .mp3 so it's nice and small.
I don't see anything relating to mp3 in the audio > compression.. maybe I need to install another codec?

Sure can. Simply install LAME ACM MP3 encoder (or the Radium FhG MP3 encoder, if you prefer), and you will be able to convert WAV to MP3 in Virtualdub.

Quite obvious, isn't it? The larger the bitrate, the larger the resulting file will be (ie. maximum bitrate would require large filesize).

              ok thx..
I dled the Radium FhG MP3 encoder but I can't seem to find it in the audio > compression list??
Or am I doing the wrong thing in VD?

[edit] ahh I just checked out the readme, it says to select MPEG Layer-3. But there is soo many different audio formats.. What one should I select? [/edit]

                Typically:
                1. Stereo (unless your source is mono)
                2. Same sampling rate (eg. if your source is 48KHz, then use 48KHz)
                3. Desired bitrate (you know enough about this, don't you?)
