    question about VirtualDub 1.4.5

Hey how's it going, I tried making my first divx movie last night and when I opened up the avi file in the morning it looked ok, but the sound was a little ahead by a few seconds. I heard about using VirtualDub to fix this, and I followed the instructions but do I really have to process the entire movie w/the settings I changed in interleaving just to see if it will sync it ok? When I open up the avi file and select direct stream copy for the audio/video.. and then click on interleaving and enter in a positive value, then hit ok.. when I click the button that starts the preview of the processed output I don't see any video, I hear the sound but that's about it. When I click on 'Dub in progress!' .. display output video is checked, I just have no way of seeing if the changes I made are close or not in syncing the audio. Sorry if this sounds confusing, I'll try my to be more clear in the future.. Thanks for your help.

That's the only way to be certain...

If you are using the following procedures, it should take no more than 5 minutes with the SLOWEST of machines to change the audio skew of a 700Mb .AVI:

    1) Load the file into VirtualDub or NanDub.

    2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy".

    3) From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving"

    4) Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of milleseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay audio track by"

    5) Save with a new filename

      ahh..

I did that after I posted and what I noticed was that in both movies.. the original and the one created with virtualdub, in the middle of the movie the sound seems to be sync'd ok, but in the beginning/end of the film it's audio before video. I'm going to search the forum for similar problems, if you happen to know a fix for this it'd be very much appreciated.. the software I'm using to create the divx file is FlasKMPEG ver 0.6 with the Divx Pro 5.02 codec and the Fraunhofer MP3 Codec Pro 1.263 installed. The instructions I followed were from here: http://www.how-to-create-divx.com/1E...ndex_step1.htm

and I used DVD Decrypter to create the IFO files. Ok I'm going to look around for people that had similar problems, thanks again for your help.

If you want to be CERTAIN to retain audio/video synchronization while using Flask, try the following:

        1) Rip DVD with DVDDecrypter

        2) Convert to .AVI using Flask
        A) Using DivX v.3.11 codec (Fast Motion 910kbps, keyframe every 10 seconds) or other DivX codec, or Xvid codec, or 3IVX codec
        B) Using PCM (uncompressed) audio at 48,000Hz (Maintains synchronization of audio and video)

        3) Load .AVI into VirtualDub
        A) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
        B) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
        C) Under "Audio", click on "Conversion", select "44,100Hz" (or 48,000Hz, if this doesn't present a playback problem for you)
        D) Under "Audio", click on "Compression" select "MP3", "44,100Hz" (or 48,000Hz), "96Kbps" (or higher)
        E) Save revised .AVI with new filename

"D) Under "Audio", click on "Compression" select "MP3", "44,100Hz" (or 48,000Hz), "96Kbps" (or higher)"

On my screen when I clicked on compression, it only went up to 56kbps for the MP3.. maybe I need a better codec installed? I tried doing at 56kbps anyway just to see how it works. What sucks is I have to run to work again, I'll check for a reply there.. thanks.

Download and install the Radium (Fraunhoefer hack) .MP3 codec...
