    Reducing

    Hi,

I'm completely new to the divx, vcd and avis etc
I want to know the easiest way to reduce the file size of an avi
    Is this the approriate forum?
My file is only a few megabytes too big to fit on my cd

    Thanks

The easiest and fastest way would be to reduce the quality of the audio, use Virtualdub and choose direct stream copy for the video and full processing for the audio, then pick a lower bitrate, if it's a long movie you shouldn't need to reduce it to much

You could also install the ogg codec which might not reduce the quality to much on a lower bitrate.
    - The question is: Why?

If your movie has end credits, cropping off some of it would be the best way to reduce filesize (without having to compromise on quality):

      1. Open file in Virtual/nandub
      2. Set both Video and Audio tabs to Direct Stream Copy
      3. Use the Mark In/Out buttons to specify the start and end of the new file respectively. The end will be the scene just before the end credits appear
      4. Go to File -> Save as AVI and give a name to the new file
