virtualdub splitting: delayed picture

hi, i've been trying to split an avi file using virtual dub and the first half works fine, the second half seems to have a problem though. the sound comes before the picture - the voice is heard before the mouth moves. any suggestions on what i can do?

1. make sure that you split your movie exactly on an I-frame
(keyframe)

2. before you split the movie make sure that the audiofile has a constant bitrate.

use the fileinformation in file dropdown menue to check.
or Gspot
If the movie has an AC3 audiostream use Virtual dub MOD to split.

Because the standard version of VirtualDub cannot process .AC3 audio...

the file i was trying to split is an ac3 file. i tried using virtual dub mod and there was still delay. tried nan dub too and same problem. so i was about to do it the math method (http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/cutavi.html) when i saw the "change so video and audio durations match" option and selected it, and the split file was good. video and audio exactly together.

I read divx digest's "Cutting AVI files" article! It didn't mention anything about AC3 files or that option.... are there any other important articles I should read?

You have to keep in mind that technology advances at an EXTREMELY rapid pace. As such, an article written six months ago may now be somewhat (if not entirely) outdated.

I'd strongly suggest that you read as many of the posts at these forums as you possibly can. There's a welath of information contained therein, just waiting to be "mined"...
