    .avi done - what tool for subtitles?

    hey, I just wanted to know what the best ( = easy to use ) tool is to add subtitles ( I have a .idx file and a .sub file ) to a ready .avi ( encoded in divx 5.05 )

    it depends on if you want to keep that subtitles selectable (switch on and of)
    or permanent...(that means encoded INTO the video)

    in first case ... nothing is needed....just load the subtitles with your subtitle capable player (like BS Player or MV2 player)they
    will automatically load subs when the subtitle file has the same name besides the suffix
    like Darknessfalls.avi and Darknessfalls.sub , and reside in the same folder! if they are resided in different folders, load manually!

    or if player is not capable to load subs by choosing, install "vobsub".......having the same filename besides the suffix, vobsub
    will load them automatically.......

    in case two refer to virtual dub and its extendet filters as well
    as to the posts on the same topic in digital digest forums and to the online guides on Virtual dub!!

      it is also possible to combine all files when you use a ogm or matroska container instead of avi container..... no reencode is
      needed.....

        I just got that bs player you were referring to - nice software and it does load the subtitles automatically and that's perfect cause I didn't want the subtitle to be displayed permanently thx for help
