    Analogue Video

Excuse my ignorance guys but I'm hoping someone will help ?

I'd like ta capture my home analogue vids and encode em ta mpeg ta burn em inta vcd.
The problem I have is I only have 40 Gig HD !
I do have a TV card which I thought might do the trick, but trying just 2 mins of analogue, the resulting avi is wey wey too big !!

I thought maybe there might be a piece of software that would capture and encode simultaneously to the HD , thus preventing the need for so much space ?

Does anyone know of a piece of kit that might do this ?
I have read about capture cards that will encode on the card rather than HD ????
But I'd prefer software ta do it ?

    Many thanx guys

yes certain capture cards will do it..i am sure there is a software somewhere too....i make lots of vids from my cam with the "huge" avi size and my hard drive is only 16 gigs..you shouldnt be having any problems.

      capture codecs

when you capture any file via a capture card etc...go into the audio and video settings and change the video capture codecs...download the new divx bundle 4.11/12 and u should be ok for example 45mins video with divx will be about a 500mg file depending what quality your using it will go up and down just experiment.

        to gchester:
just wanted to let you know that my card will NOT let you change ANY capture settings and maybe some other peoples dont either.
i like mine to cap in the big file anyway, but i have found a couple uses for capping in a different codec but not much.if someone is gonna edit their cap later then it doesn't make much sense to cap in a compressed format such as divx..etc. cause they are gonna have to encode it after editing. but if someone wanted to go from their camera straight to an unedited mpeg or divx then it would be ok.
