Difficulty in editing; please HELP ME!

Hi guys. This is my first post, hope you can help me. I am editing my amateur colleage video and here comes a problem: the guy who ripped the video has left those display messages like "PLAY" "SLOW" and others in the video, and that is too bad... Then I am thinking of putting an image over the area where those messages appear.

I will attach a JPG image of the situation and of my purporse. See.

So, that´s what I am planing to do, but now the new question is: how can I do that? I am a complete newbie, never touched in Adobe Premiere, but I have the 6.5 version here. If you can teach me, me and my friends would appreciate a lot.

Other idea to solve that problem is to blur the messages, but again I dunno how to do that, how to blur an specific area. Can you help me here?
