AC3 to MP2 Conversion for TMPGenc

Have ripped a DVD .vob file back to the hard drive with DVDShrink. Used TMPGenc's MPEG tools to demultiplex the video and audio. The audio is Dobly Digital (.ac3).

I used BeSweet to convert it to .mp2. When I try to use TMPGenc's MPEG tools to multiplex the video (.m2v) and audio (.mp2) back together I get the error message "Illegal MPEG audio stream".

I've tried multiple settings in BeSweet without success. Can anyone help?

There should be no need to use BeSweet:

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to one greater than the highest priority of listed items. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded file with .AC3 audio for input...

Yes, that was clicked. TMPGenc accepts the .vob (MPEG2) file from the DVD. It will demultiplex it into the video (.m2v) and audio (.ac3) component.

Now how do I get a portion of this video back onto a DVD?

If I don't demux it and just try to cut the clip using MPEG Tools, the final .mpg file has no audio when played with Windows Media Player or when brought into DVDit. I assume this is because TMPGenc couldn't deal with the .ac3 file when it rewrote the .mpg file.

The only solution I think will work is to demux the file, convert the .ac3 file to .mp2 and multiplex the files back together.

So far I have been unable to successfully create an .mp2 file. Does anyone know how to do this? Before responding, please see my original post to learn what I have done thus far.

Are you now saying that what you're trying to accomplish is to simply cut a PIECE of a .VOB and save it?

If so, simply use MPEGCutter on the initial .VOB...

hi,
i use dvdx (available from vcdhelp) to rip all dvds to avi then tmpgenc will encode no problem...i havent had any problems using these yet...

I would do that if I was going to re-edit. Just don't want to have the quality loss involved with re-encoding if I don't have to. Thanks for your help.
