After installing the new DivX 5 codec, I decided to test it by playing an AVI that had been encoded with DivX 4.12 using Windows Media Player. The AVI played fine.
Then I decided to test the new codec by importing the same AVI into VirtualDub and saving it with the DivX 5 codec.
Unfortunately, when I loaded the AVI (that was encoded with the DivX 4.12 codec) into VirtualDub, all I am getting is a black screen.
I decided to try to encode the AVI anyway. After encoding the AVI with DivX 5, I tried to play it back with Media Player.
Unfortunately, all I see is a black screen, with the audio.
What went wrong? Why is VirtualDub showing DivX 4.12 AVIs as black, when Media Player plays them fine? And why is VirtualDub encoding them as black? I never had this problem before I installed the DivX 5 codec.
