gknot / smartripper damaging dvd drive?

dvd drive has never given me any problems at all. on friday night, i watched a dvd and turned off my machine. saturday morning, i installed gknot + the upgrade, because i had read how superior SBC encoding is to Flask/XMPEG, which I have used repeatedly in the past.

so, i installed GordianKnot, and attempted to rip the DVD. Immediately afterwards, the computer stopped responding until i ejected the disc. Now, no disc at all can be read in the drive; DVD, AudioCD, nor data CD. I have since removed Gknot the best I could (considering that there are no uninstallers) and tried to reinstall the drivers to the DVD drive, but discs are still unable to be read. Thanks in advance.

How old is your drive? And has it been showing signs of wearing lately? I use Smart ripper and GK, both installed separately at different times though, and no harm has come to my DVD drive. I have used Smartripper for almost a year, if I remember correctly.

      not too old

the dvd drive is a little over a year old. i previously detected no problems with it at all. in fact, i had just watched a dvd on it about 12 hours before the installation/fiasco.

i don't know if gknot/smartripper are to blame, but it is an amazing coincidence, and i am curious if anyone else has had the same coincidence...

      thanks

          Doubt it's the software m8
dvd-rom are just like any other component, doesnt last forever although yours is only a year old
fact that it happend when u installed and used all that software is coincidence i'd say. Using it for over a year now and no probs
