Joining Divx files with VirtualDub 1.3c

When attempting to join two parts of a dvix movie I am having a problem with the sound. The first part has sound fine, but the second part has no sound at all. Just wondering if anyone knows what this could be.

here are the specs on the files, both parts are identical

    Video 640x352, 23.9 fps, divx codec 4.2
Audio 48Hz, Fraunhofer llS Mpeg-3 Codec

also to note, when trying to use VDub4.x I get a message about the audio being a bad format and it has to convert it. I tried to let it convert it, but it makes the audio out of sync. so no go there

    Id appreciate any help!

The limited information that you've posted is insufficient to conclude that the two files are "identical". For further information, do the following for each of the files:

    1) Load the file into VirtualDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

      Here's the specs

Im sure these two files are identical, as they are two parts of the same movie split to fit on two cd's. But I attached a zip with with specs on each of the clips.

      I appreciate the help

Maybe it's a variation of the mp3-codec like vbr. Try nandub to join the files.
        don't trust in guides

benderman's speculation was correct. The audiostreams are Variable Bit Rate (VBR)-MP3, which VirtualDub cannot process properly. To convert the files to make them processable by VirtualDub, do the following for each one:

Simply use VirtualDub to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Load your original .AVI into VirtualDub
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK"
Then set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
Then save the .AVI as a silent .AVI (set "Audio" to "No audio" after you've saved the WAV file).

Then close VirtualDub and restart it
          Set "Audio" to "No audio"
          Load your silent .AVI
Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
Under "Audio" click on "WAV Audio" and load your .WAV
Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" and choose the appropriate .MP3 settings. Click on "OK"
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and save your file with a new filename.

            setarip, question for you

So do I do this process to each of the files, then join them together?

Yes - As I said in my last post: "To convert the files to make them processable by VirtualDub, do the following for EACH ONE...

Based on your initial post, I assume you already know haw to join the two modified files, using VirtualDub (Just make certain to set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying").

              Let us know of your success ;>}

                thanks!

worked like a charm guys, thanks a lot.

One more question. Is there any way to effectivly convert these divx files back to Mpeg-4 format to be burned to a DVD-R?
