DivX 2.0 Player Crashes

I'm completely new to this DivX stuff, so indulge a newbie for a moment.

I just downloaded the DivX 5.0 bundle (no problem there), but after installing it, I tried to open the Divx 2.0 Player and it keeps crashing before completely opening.

I'm using Windows 95 (yikes!). Is this too old?

Try instaling DirectX8.

I recieved exactly the same error, I think I may have to upgrade directx, but it can be a pain---that's what I hear, am I right?

Okay, I tried upgrading to directx8 (from Microsoft website), but unfortunately that didn't fix it. It still crashes just as it's trying to open a new window (and right after the big DivX Player 2.0 Alpha icon appears).

Oh well, I'll keep on the hunt, but this quarry is elusive......

Try using Windows Media Player 6.4 (or 7), whose support in Win95 I can't be sure about though. For WMP 6.4, run the command "mplayer2.exe" from the start menu.
