Recommended Quantization Matrices Setting

Hi,

Just started using DVD Rebuilder Pro. What is the recommended setting for Quantization Matrices? I just used the default ones with HC Encoder 0.15 and everything looks extremely fine (on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets).

But I would like to check for opinions / guidance for the best quality possible from the experts

In DVDRB go to Options --> Advanced Expert Options --> Quant matrixes and set the matrix for the bitrate you got. You can also steal space from extras.

Low BRs (<3) go for the Low matrix. Very low, go for the Very low one. Select high for the main movie usually and depending on the BR for the extra, set that accordingly.

You can see the BR for each cell and in fact set it with Robot's RBOpt 21 add in. Get it here.

I knew about the Advanced Settings for Quantization Matrices. I just wondered if there are any prefered matrices for better encoding quality than the default setting (MPEG Matrix).

The best way to test matrices is to use a tool I developed as an addon to Rebuilder... it is called "RME (Rebuilder's Matrix Editor)".

This tool will allow you to test different Matrices on a segment you may want to use for tests... that will help you to get the best Matrix for your current project.

ps. it also includes some fully mpeg2 compatible Matrices along with a description for each one of them

edit: It also allows the test of filters... it is prepared to use Undot and Deen but I'm opened to suggestions about some more to add
