I know I am probably annoying alot of people with this movie, but it's annoying me as well, I've tried everything with this movie, and I mean everything, different matrices, filters, used Rebuilder Matrix Editor to test it out and I always see the same result and it's more noticeable on the tv than on the computer screen, I just want to know, anybody ever had this kinda problem before, all my other backups look fine, but this one seems to come out really bad and it's movie only too

it's the film itself. jwo62 did some experimentation--see the screenshots he provided in this thread.
Hi all,
I just watched 'war of the worlds',the original disc does have noticeably poor video quality.Last edited by LT. Columbo; 9 Dec 2005, 05:10 PM."One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888

The film has intential grain. It is intential as grain if often used to hide the CGI in the films. It makes the CGI look more realistic and also hide flaws withinm the CGI process. The film also doesn't has as high bitrate as it could have. So, when you compress, it will make it look easily worse by not much compression.
I used DVD-RB using movie only mode with HCEnc and it took just 30% reduction. I noticed sereral small artefacts during the 110 minute runtime.
The R2 does has slightly better quality over the R1 (that might be down to a bit higher bitrate).Comment

I've backed up "War of The Worlds" twice. Once on DL disc and the other with RB and both work. Movie only and menu with RB seems to have a problem but complete backup also seems to work.
Note: I use AnyDVD."Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." Sherlock Holmes (by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, 1859-1930)Comment

@ElBoricua433
Maybe this DVD is a real candidate for a DL burn? Or have you considered using RBOpt to up the BR on the grainy bits.
I know you've also been advised to use certain filters - I guess they didn't work?

I would think that "War of The Worlds" is a good practice disc for an editing app such as DVDremake."Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." Sherlock Holmes (by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, 1859-1930)Comment

My thought is: handle the original DVD with care (you know the movie by heart already anyway), and wait patiently for the (inevitable) Super Deluxe This Time We Worked More Than Five Minutes And Got It Right Edition, only $19.99, and will doubtless include out-takes from Tom Cruise's Oprah appearance! You know it's gonna happen...Comment

You have without a doubt spent more time trying to back-up this DVD than the original DVD authoring company did in creating it!
Someday I will speak of the "Daredevil trials." And ILUV!!
Perhaps a bit now.
That's right, I spent considerable time trying to trim multi angles from DareDevil using DVDremake so that I could encode it using RB/CCE. I succeeded even though the movie sucked rotten Eggs!! heh, I don't see a problem with those screenshots, but oh well! I don't even own the movie (yet) so I haven't had a chance to test that out. My friend has it, and when I watched it on his TV, it looked perfect (not the special edition). Maybe I was lucky?CYA Later:

Although the filters can filter out some of the garbage but dont expect it to turn the garbage into flowersComment
