after the prepare stage, it says "overall bitrate" and gives 2 values. what are these 2 values? im guessing one is the average bitrate?

I thought it gave a high/low/typical (average) BR. The average will be spread over each frame.

i think different encoders have different logs. when i use CCE, it gives the high/low/typical, but HC gives "Overall Bitrate : x/x".Comment

No. They are both the average bitrate. One represents the bitrate at 29.97fps, the other at 23.976fps. Most other packages only show you the higher one (because it makes people feel better when its a high number). I just like to be honest in my reporting.
If the source is 29.97fps (non FILM) the higher rate is what you are actually getting. If it is FILM (23.976fps) the second one is the true rate but the first one is what you will get for playback (because of telecining). If the source is a hybrid (a mixture of telecined/non-telecined) then you get a mixture of the two.
All playback as might be shown on your standalone (no matter how it is encoded) will be the higher number.Last edited by jdobbs; 15 May 2006, 07:17 AM.Comment
