I think what you're seeing may be related to sizing of the rate control buffer. I found an error related to that today. I should be posting an updated beta version at Doom9 some time today. I'd appreciate it if you tried that one and see if it corrects your jerkiness problem.

I tried your update(1.20.3) and from what I see it fixed my problem.I did notice when I used custom settings and selected two-pass it only did one pass

I got that problem too from day 1. I think the "custom" doesn't take.

The "Custom" problem should have been fixed in v1.20.3. I just tested it again and it appears to work correctly... the only exception would be if you set the output video bitrate to less than 32 -- as that tells DVD-RB to use a constant Q value (and doing more than one pass at a constant Q would be superfluous).

[Edit] Hmmm.... but now I just tested it once more, and when I set it back to 1 pass it didn't seem to take. Odd. I'll get back to you on this.

Well the "Custom" problem is still there. I found and fixed it (again) for the next release. It was really odd. If you selected "custom" it would be used correctly... but if you opened the MOBILE dialog again just to look at it, the selected preset would be set back to whatever was highlighted in the "Presets List"... sigh...

Sometimes even the simplest of actions can be a cause of errors.

I tried your update(1.20.4) and the 2-Pass in Mobile still don't work. I would also like to add that am getting lines at the top of the screen I posted some screen shots to show you

The borders are calculated based upon the output resolution. They are required in order to keep the specified resolution and also the correct aspect ratio as well. There's really no choice (for the same reason they may be needed on DVDs sometimes). You also have to account for the fact that encoders often require that the horizontal and/or vertical resolution must be on 8 or 16 bit boundaries (depending upon the codec).

In your example it's likely that the original film was done at a 2:1 ratio -- but the DVD (and the MOBILE encoding) are 16:9 -- so the borders you are seeing are actually part of the source material.

I have done numerous 2 pass encodes, so I'm not sure what problem you may be having... does the FFMPEG interface show "Pass 1/2" when it is encoding? If so, one possibility is if your average Q factor falls below 3. In that case the interface stops after one pass because no improvement could be made by doing another.
