The new DVD REBUILDER

CCE's professional versions are definitely not cheap. You probably need to have a video based business to justify that kind of expense. On the other hand, the "Basic" version uses the same engine, and gives great results at $49 without the bells and whistles.
But -- these days HC's quality is right on-par with CCE, and its speed is getting closer as well.Comment

Actually I use CCE Basic in conjunction with DVD Rebuilder Pro.
The only thing that puts me off HC is that I've heard it's not quite as fast (yet) and it's debateable if it equals the quality of CCE's output.
I'm a compulsive experimenter though and if HC gets any faster I'll have to try it out at least once.

If you have a dual processor CPU and you turn on "Multiple Encoder Processes" you'll find HC to be only a few percentage points slower than CCE. Don't get me wrong, I like CCE too... and it is well worth the money. But the price for HC is hard to beat!!! Hank315 has really done a great job.Comment

I echo jdobbs thoughts. HC is actually now my encoder of choice.

the donation is 30$? and includes HC?
seems very reasonable even for a cheapskate like me
I had to clean my pants out after seeing this tho
CCE-SP2
Processed 6,105 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 53.2%
- Overall Bitrate : 3,011/2,408Kbs
- Space for Video : 3,522,936KB
- HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 3,881/1,923/2,408 Kbs
EDIT
I almost forgot I dont think we are allowed to post movie pics.If its OK let me know and I will show my results. But I can say that CCE-SP2 had haloing around the images in the movie I did and PC2 did not.I would say it's not worth the thousand bucks.I could be missing something I am new to CCE like I said I have only used it for a couple weeksLast edited by BR7; 4 Jun 2007, 08:10 PM.Comment

Maybe I'm wrong but I just get the impression from what others have said that on my older machine with a single core processor it would probably would be a fair bit slower than CCE.
Although there's always the possibility that I'm just a miserable so and so and want to make sure I get my moneys worth out of CCE.

I forgot to mention that I have a 2 core unit Wombler, so perhaps you also have a valid point. Although speed is not everything

CCE is the fastest encoder I know of, and it's quality is at the top of the heap. So you should never feel bad about your purchase -- I know I have gotten every penny's worth of value out of mine.
I think it's difficult to say CCE is better or HC is better in terms of quality. CCE may be better on one source and HC better on another. The fact is that they are both really, really good.
On older processors (expecially AMD) CCE will be a lot faster. If you have a processor that supports SSE2, HC catches up a little, but is still quite a bit slower. If you have a dual processor machine, CCE is still faster (at least in my case)... but the difference probably isn't enough to worry aboutComment

That's interesting to hear.
My machine's a couple of years old now and it has an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ CPU.
It takes between 1.5 & 2.5 hours for a 2 pass encode which is adequate compared to my previous machine but probably relatively slow by todays standards.
