Is there a way to change aspect ratio with MPEG Video Wizard?

Q: Is there a way to change aspect ratio with MPEG Video Wizard? I have a 16:9 clip that I need to convert to 4:3.

To change this flag, follow the following steps.

1. Put the video clip on the video track of the timeline.

2. Export the timeline selecting the "Custom" template.

3. Switch to Video page in the Export window.

4. Press the Expert button on the Video page.

5. Select the desired aspect ratio flag from the PAR list.

6. Switch to the Monitor page and press Start.

7. Check the exported video file in the Input monitor.

Why does the image quality differ in the input and output windows?

Q: I've noticed that when I place an image in the input screen, it's so much clearer than the output screen. The image in the output screen is not the resulotion as the image in the input and very granny. The image I put in the input is only about 750 by 480. I would like the images to be as good in the output as the input..........Why are they different? How do I correct the problem. Thanks.

This is due to the limitation of the DirectDraw's support of direct video display in the video hardware.

Windows can allow only one window to have this direct hardware YUV display (aks. YUV overlay).

You can explicitly control this display via the editor's Options... -> Preview -> Hardware video overlay acceleration

To open the Options control, simply press the F10 function key.

How do I export a selected section from a DVD?

Q: My goal is to find software that will allow me to save selected sections from a DVD for use in my class. I am able to mark sections so far, but do not know who to save those sections for use in class. I get a title, but not the section. Can you help me work through the problem?

The basic steps of copying a segment and saving it into a new file is similar to the following.

1. find the segment in the Input monitor
- open your (non encrypted) VOB file in the Input monitor
- find the beginning frame and set Mark-In (press the 'I' key)
- find the ending frame and set Mark-Out (press the 'O' key)

2. add the segment to timeline
- click in the video window while holding down the mouse key to drag and drop the selected segment into the Timeline;
or simply press the 'G' key;
or right mouse click in the video window and select "Add to timeline"

3. save the segment to a new file in the timeline
- press the Export button (RED colored near the bottom right)
- select "Automatic" in the "Save as type"
- select a file name
- press OK, and the export will start

4. preview the saved segment
- at the completion of the export job, the saved file will be automatically added to the clip list in the Project Manager which is the most left window
- press the "Clips" tab (the 4th one)
- find the new item under Video
- double click on the icon, and it will be played in the Input monitor

How can I replace the audio part of the video?

Q: I have some existing MPEG video files from a client that I need to edit, and I'm wondering if womble software will do what I need. What I need to do is to remove existing narration from the video clips, add new narration, and save the file back out without recompressing the video portion at all. The video is encoded with MPEG-1, 496x288, 24fps. The audio is 16 bit stereo, 44.100 kHz, MPEG-1 Layer 2, 192 kbits/s. The new audio could be sent into womble software in whatever format it would need, but I'd want the recompressed audio to be similar to what's listed above.

Yes, this can be done using the MVW with steps below.

- put the MPEG file on the video track of the Timeline
- put the substitute audio on one of the audio tracks
- mute the video clip from the clip menu
- press Export button (red) on the Timeline's toolbox
- select "Custom" template
- switch to Audio page on the Export window
- change the audio encoder to MPEG-1 Layer 2 at 44.1kHz and 192 kpbs
- switch to Monitor page
- press Start to complete the conversion

If your substitute audio needs realignment with the video, you will need some manual adjustment, using a higher resolution time scale.

How do I convert my DVD into MP4 and export it to my iPod

Q: On the website, it says that the software has a feature to convert DVD to MP4 and DVD to VCD/SVCD conversion. Does this mean that I can take a DVD that I have and convert it to mp4 to then watch on my ipod? if so, how can I do this?

Yes, and here's the steps.

- add your (non encrypted) DVD video to the timeline
- do some editing if needed
- save the timeline as an editor project file (.wbp)
- open the "MP4 Exporter..." from the menu under the Tools button
- load the saved .wbp file to the Project File
- select an output file name
- select "MP4 for Apple iPod" in the "Output Format" list
- make some change for the video and audio encoders, if necessary
- press the "Start" button

How do I blur out parts of the video?

Q: How to edit a movie like this: I want to blur out certain video parts like if i was to make a video and it had my visa number on it i wouldn't wanna post that on youtube id want to be able to blur out the visa number but still leave everything else intact.

Here're the steps of one approach.

- add your video to the timeline's video track (1st row)
- open the Title editor
- change its screen size to match that of the video,
this is done by right mouse clicking in the title editor window and select "Screen Size...".
- switch to the Graphics tab on the left
- click on one of the graphic shape icon under Graphics
- while holding down the left mouse button, click and
drag it to add the graphic in the title editor window
- adjust the graphic object size and position to where you want to mask the credit card number
- save the title to a title clip file
- drag and drop it in the 2nd track under the video
- stretch the title clip to match the length of video to be blocked

NOTE: those 4 steps may need several back and forth change to make it work as desired since the title editor does not display the video image as its background.

- save the timeline to an editor project file
- export the project to a new video file

How do I add an intro video onto the DVD that will play before the menu appears?

Q: Can anyone tell me how I can place a video clip on my DVD disk to play before the main menu shows up?

I have all the chapters and menu ready but there is an intro that I would like to add to play before the menu displays. pretty much like when you watch a movie and the 21st Century Fox logo apears and then the main menu is displayed.

When you already have all chapters and menus done, you can do the following steps to add the intro video:

1. right click Video and select 'Add video...' to add your intro video as another new title.
2. right click on the new title and select 'First play'.
3. right click on the new title and select 'End action' to choose the menu page which you hope to return to when the playback of intro video ends.

By doing this, the intro video will first play when you insert you dvd disc to you dvd player, and will return to menu page when the playback ends.

How can I create multiple titles on a single DVD?

Q: Hello,

When I add 3 different videos to the Time Line to make them into a single DVD, I would like them to appear on the DVD as 3 separate titles, each with their own chapters. How do I do that?

What happens now is that each of the 3 VOB's are split into 5 chapters but they appear on my DVD player menu as 1 title with 15 chapters, not as 3 titles each with 5 chapters.

I can make the menu show 3 titles, each with 1-5 chapters and that works fairly well, but how do I actually create 3 separate titles using the DVD Maker.

Here's one way to do it.

- create a ".wbp" project for each title to be added in the final dvd, and select your chapter points in the timeline by adding "marker"s

- in the dvd editor, import each of the ".wbp" project as individual title, which is the only selection for video import of ".wbp" files

- select or examine the encoder parameters for each video title, and save the dvd project to a ".wbd" file for later use

- export the dvd project
