Verticle lines on sides of screen

    Hi,
With every movie that I convert using TMPEnc, I try to make the aspect ratio the exact same as it is in the original .avi file. First of all, rather than having to use trial and error by creating custom aspect ratios for some of the avi files (some seem to have unusual aspect ratios), is there a way to have it automatically detect the aspect ratio and have the output file at the exact same aspect ratio?

My other question is: can anyone tell me what settings I need to change to get rid of the vertical black bars that appear on either side of screen in the output movie? I've followed the guide, and sometimes have even had to create a custom aspect ratio, but still I get these vertical lines on both sides of the screen. Thanks in advance for the help.

    hi

selecting "keep aspct ratio 2" under video arrnge method will do the trick. if it is compressed than you will have to use custom aspect ratio to make it fit and look right

    BTW vertical lines= black bars?

Thanks very much for your help. I'll give this a try. And yeah, I meant black bars

Edit: I'm wondering why it says "(Fullscreen) Keep aspect ratio 2", that is "fullscreen". That implies, to me anyway, that the output will be fullscreen rather than widescreen..

Well, I believe I have all of the settings right. Now when I begin the encoding process, I just see a blank screen (preview enabled) and the progress doesn't change, only the Elapse Time does. I have installed the latest Divx codecs too. Any sugestions? Thanks again

Ok, I do think I have it now. I guess there is a process that takes place when you first start encoding, but it only shows at the bottom of the window before the filename. In this case, the file name was so long that it hid the progress of the initialization (or whatever it is).
Well thanks for the help once again

that's correct. it's running the inverse telecine action first as a "% complete" shown, like you say; it won't be visible if the filename is a mile long. the timer will be running though. just rename the file before using TMPGEnc if you like
