      OK I have reinstalled the Encoder and remaking the MPEG 2 file currently and the preview screen has a lot of horizontal striping going on but the settings are as follows:-

      GOP

      Advanced

      MPEG Settings

      Screen 2 Encoder

          Thanks a heap LT. You have been a great help and would like to repay your efforts.

          I will then use DVD shrink to reduce the size bfore applying T Author? correct ? and you reckon this will be a 'clear' picture as I have had difficulty getting panning / moving people without a 'aura' around the edges of them.

          Cheers

            well you are choosing the max birate, so that is good (8000), but you can't load this project inshrink untill dvd author finishes....

              Thaks Lt for your help. I have produced the DVD and it is pretty good. I would like to have it clearer as it has a slight shimmereing to the edges of the people etc but I guess that this may also be a factor of the loss of quality in the capture, encoding, TV, DVD Player etc. On the PC it is much clearer.

              Any thing else you can add for me??

              Cheers

                not really famreeks, TMPGEnc is one of the better encoders, so i'm no sure you can do much better, especially with such a high bitrate. this may lie on the original capture....

                  as it has a slight shimmereing to the edges of the people etc
                  as it plays fine on your PC, i'm afraid it's your standalone (and also possibly your display) that's causing it.

                  a workaround would be to encode again but deinterlace this time; it will take considerably longer if you want good results though.

                  I guess that this may also be a factor of the loss of quality in the capture, encoding
                  DV cam-->PC via firewire is a lossless process, and 8mpbs mpeg2 is plenty for 720x576 25fps

                    Thanks to both LT and Anonymez.

                    I gather the 'deinterlace' is the check box on the advanced tab which sais'deinterlace'(none)?!

                    Also what does 'incerse telecine' do?

                    Thanks to all

                      i'd advise against any deinterlacing that doesn't come in the form of an avisynth plugin. how patient are you?

                      Also what does 'incerse telecine' do?

                        I would be happy to try out the 'avisynth plugin' if you can assist further.

                        let me know what I need to do to try this out.
                        cheers

                          i'll try to make it as simple as possible;

                          1. download & install avisynth

                          2. download mvbob http://home.arcor.de/scharfis_brain/mvbob/mvbob.rar

                          3. extract the contents of the mvbob package to the avisynth plugins folder C:\program files\avisynth 2.5\plugins

                          4. run notepad

                          5. copy & paste this in
                          Code:
                          import("C:\program files\avisynth 2.5\plugins\mvbob.avs")
                          avisource("C:\path\to\video.avi")
                          mvbob()
                          selecteven()
                          6. adjust path of video file in notepad so it matches what you have

                          7. go file--save as, and save it as "script.avs"

                          8. open this avs file just as you would a normal avi in tmpgenc

                          note the encode will take considerably longer now, but keep in mind mvbob is arguably the most sophisticated deinterlacer (for everything other than animation anyway) available

                            Ok - I reckon I will be asking more questions so thanks for hanging in there with me Anonymez!

                            In step 3) Should I use the drive letter where I normally install and run programs from ? IN my case replace C:\ with G:\program files\avisynth 2.5\plugins ??

                            In step 5) Also I would then replace the c:\ below with G:\ - as well?

                            import("C:\program files\avisynth 2.5\plugins\mvbob.avs")
                            avisource("C:\path\to\video.avi")
                            mvbob()
                            selecteven()

                            Whilst on step 5) The video path is where the actual video is located that Ihave already produced correct? and leave the syntax \to\ as is?

                            So it would end up as G:\Germ Video\Germ Beach\Video\Germ Beach.m2v\to\video.avi

                            instead of

                            ("C:\path\to\video.avi")

                            Can I undo whatever I am going to do with your istructions should I not see any improvements or bugger it up?

                            Cheers

                              change ALL paths according to where the files are on your hard disk, the ones i had were just to show you as an example, since obviously i don't have access to your hard disk. if you installed avisynth on G:\, change it. if the video is in another folder, change the path accordingly.

                              So it would end up as G:\Germ Video\Germ Beach\Video\Germ Beach.m2v\to\video.avi
                              no it would be like G:\Germ Video\Germ Beach\Video\Germ Beach.m2v

                              but the file is an avi, right?

                                Yes - I see. I referred to the already encoded file - should be the avi. got it.
