    DVD Author .AC3 problems

While using TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6:

Hi all--pretty new to DVD Authoring, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I've been attempting to create a DVD with TMPGEnc DVD Author using an MPEG-2 converted from an AVI. I used VirtualDubMod to extract the AC3 file from the AVI but when I attempt to load the AC3 file into TMPGEnc DVD Author it tells me it's an illegal file (must be AC3--uhh, but it is).

Now, I've done some research and I've tried a couple methods, one of which is to download AC3Fix, because I assume something might be wrong with the AC3 headers? or some such, but either I'm doing something wrong or AC3Fix isn't working. It's my understanding that it was supposed to output some sort of fixed version of the AC3 but nothing's in the output directory but the original file. Can someone give me some tips here? I'm really at the end of my rope with this.

    welcome mr wednesday

let me say you have done your research very well! this is what i propose, take AC3Fix and throw it in the bush. Install Besliced
when it's open a man will appear in a small window. open your folder on PC containing problem AC3 file, then click the already open besliced in the task bar so it is "overlaying" your folder. drag and drop your problem AC3 file onto the mans head. then choose "fix file". now use the NEW AC3 file created by besliced into TMPGEnc dvd Author - no problemo!

Well, managed to get AC3Fix to actually work by putting the problem AC3 in the same directory as it. None of the instructions indicated this was required. But after all that, the video itself is all pixellated. Don't know if my encoding to MPG-2 was done properly. Ah well. ;p

what video bitrate did you use? either your source is crap or you did it wrong. how you encode is the most important before you author.

I need to ask a quick question if you will...

I am having issues lining up my audio with video when burning avi to dvd.. I read it was due to ac3 compression compatibility.. I found this forum explaining how to change ac3 format then burning the dvd http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/70/59/1/0/

The problem is that it says click on streams on virtualdub? I do not see this? Is this needed anymore and if not, what do I do next?

I was also told there was a new program out that does everything so that you do not have to use virtualdub and TMPGEnc, is this true?

          Thank You,
          Joe

            welcome

it's easier to use TMPGEnc to do the audio sync correction (see end of guide)

if using TMPGEnc dvd author 2.0, true it has audio gap correction (1.6 does not)

Well, is there a program that I can use to do everything needed to burn ac3 movie to dvd without sound getting off sync wiht video.. I know virtualdub and TMPGEnc but there has to be an easier way... My cousin does it all day long with some program but will not tell me..haha... But the new virtualdub does not have stream in menu either, so it either skips a step and or there is an easier way now? I know I am being real newbie but really I am not an idiot when it comes to computers.. I just need to understand the working a little better on this topic.. I will pay a little also..

                i can't see things getting easier...seriously.

this takes work. you think i was handed this on a silver platter?
i spent weeks and days experimenting untill i found a solution. if someone has a better idea let them speak. for me now it is as easy as pie.

                  I agree,

Using the new VirtualDub 1.7 and TSUNAMI-MPEG DVD Author PRO 2.0, how can this be done.. The new VirtualDub has no stream option in top menu?

check the help menu of TMPGEnc for the audio gap correction, not sure why you are using vdub.

be sure you are using virtualdubMOD. streams> stream list
