Tried to merge few mpeg files from my HHD camera using Tempeng,did very good work merging files but I lost the original audio from clips. Looked for ways to find problem but no success. Any suggestions.

that's why, use dvd author for the joining. this way you keep the AC3.

-once converted to mpeg2 (or starting with an original TS or mpeg2 file), I use projectx to separate the file to separate Video and audio files, correct errors, and time code the files. you will need java installed or install the program with java embedded (see link below). Correcting the files allows you to properly synchonize audio and video and correct any errors that can trash your conversion process. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ProjectX
then combine the resulting audio/video files using TMPGEnc.this process will insure that you will not loose audio and the audio and video are in sync.
I work in the mpeg2 environment and convert avi to mpeg2 then correct the mpeg2 file with projectx
To convert avi to mpeg2 use a decent converting program like Xilsoft AVI to MPEG Converter V3. I like this program because you can manilupate just about anything for the output.bitrate, audio, frame, size...and it works even on the tough problematic avi files. http://www.xilisoft.com/avi-mpeg-converter.html
