TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 with DivX Authoring creates burnt-in subtitles?!

    Hi,
I recently used 'TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 with DivX Authoring' to make a DVD from an avi (FFDS) file. There were also a pair of associated .idx/sub files to enable incorporation of a subtitle stream.
This worked fine and produced a nice DVD, however the subtitles are burnt-in, rather than selectable as I had hoped. Does anyone know how to stop them being burnt in? I don't think this is meant to happen, the TMPGEnc DVD menu I authored even had an option enabling you to turn off the subtitles.
Thanks in advance for any advice/info.

I haven't used TMPGEnc DVD Author so maybe someone else can provide info on that application. But I do know one route to getting removable subs into a DVD with idx/sub subtitles is to use SubToSup to convert them to .sup format. Put the .sup files in the same folder as the .avi and give them the same base name(e.g. movie.avi movie.sup)

Then you can use SVCD2DVD to convert the .avi to DVD with selectable subs.
If you don't want to buy SVCD2DVD then prolly your best bet it either to settle for hard subs, or try creating a .divx file(if you DVD player can play divx 6) with removable subs using AviSub freeware. You can find info on all those programs on www.videohelp.com

        Thanks MilesAhead and NightTran.

        MilesAhead:
Your suggestion to use different format subs worked. I used .srt subs and the subtitles are now selectable. I think because idx/sub-type subtitles are graphical in nature, they are not supported in TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc just hard-codes them.
