TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 problem

hi there, i've been trying to back up some home movies that are avi files onto dvd but whenever i use TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 (with DivX Authoring) the finished dvd seems to have this very slight but noticable stopping and starting visually every few seconds, is there a way to fix this?
