Changing Bit Rate

I've had problems with DVDs I've burned not always playing smoothly in other people's DVD players. I was advised that this could be a problem with bit rate, that if I'm willing to accept slightly lower quality, I can burn DVDs that are far less likely to malfunction. I was told that instead of 8, I should try to use 6 or 7.

I have Adobe Encore and TMPGenc (version 3). It looks like they both have 8 as the default bit rate. I figured out how to change Encore, but I'm stuck trying to change TMPGenc. The closest I've come is I found "Video Properties" under "Options" and that has various settings including bit rate (which is 8). However, it doesn't seem possible to change these settings. I can't type in those areas or otherwise alter them.

So is it possible to tell it to use something other than 8 for the bit rate?

In this first one, nothing can be altered. I can’t write in the spaces.



In this second one, I see where to adjust the speed, but not the bit rate.



So is there some third place I should be looking?

Click on "Settings" on the left column below the track list.
Then you get the window as shown in the picture.Click on Video tab and in the Encoder Mode select "Re-encode all videos as below". Now everything will be configurable.

Paglamon, I was checking out your TDA3 screenshot and I noticed it says with "DivX Authoring" ...

Question: is the DivX codec contained in the TDA program itself or does it tap it from outside the program?

TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 includes DivX, Dolby Digital and Linear PCM encoding capabilities
