TMPGEnc is not opening avi files

I have been opening avi files and converting them for years now but this is the first time I couldn't open an avi file. The only difference I can see in the windows properties is that the recent anime I have downloaded has a video sample size of 24 bits instead of 12 and the video compression is DVCodec instead of XVID. I have the panasonic codec already installed but I believe it only helps with watching stuff on the computer not converting files. If there is any way to load the file or convert it or something I would greatly appreciate the advice!! Thanks!

Most often when TMPGEnc didn't even open an .avi the issue was either it didn't like
the audio(as in the audio was .ac3 or some other it didn't support) or DirectShow wasn't high enough in the priorities list. I believe if you go to www.videohelp.com there's a guide showing how to set up the priorities.

I used to get around the audio by converting the audio to .wav and loading that in seperately. I seem to remember in some really sticky cases I made a one-liner .avs script AviSource("myvid.avi") or DirectShowSource("myvid.avi") and loaded that instead.

If all else fails try DVD Flick or FAVC.

Direct show is highest in the priority list. I opened the files with Gspot and the audio is MPEG-1 Layer 3. It tells me that the video codec is not installed which is H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. I do put in my audio separately once I have converted it to wav, but I don't know what you mean with the one liner bit of advice. I tried both DVD Flick and FAVC and they both didn't work. They tell me to install DivX5.1.1 and MPEG-2 decoder. I have a later verson of the codec which is 6.8.5. and I have the MPEG-2 decoder from Elecard. I have been downloading these files from the same group for years now so I don't think they are corrupted. It was working perfectly until I got to a particular episode! Any advice you could offer is greatly appreciated!

Oh and one more thing!

I installed the x264vfw codec that Gspot asked for and I see it in my codec list, but Gspot doesn't register that I have it. I don't know if this helps me or not since I am not familliar with this new format.

If 3 different converters don't work then it points to something on your system. I use Koepi's XVID codec. As for the one-liner .avs file you'd have to read up on AviSynth.

Try DVD flick version 1221? got to take out flick then install the 1221

Where the OP says everything was working crackerjack until one particular file, makes me think something got hosed. May need to uninstall then reinstall some codecs or something.
Plus I seem to remember TMPGEnc Plus was kind of finicky. Like if you messed with one bad file it liked to be reinstalled and all the priorities reset.

But it does seem unlikely 3 different encoders are all broken. Must be something they all use.

In the first post he says that the video is DV. In his second post he says that GSpot finds the video to be MPEG4 AVC. In the same post he says that DVD Flick thinks the video is DivX. Now these three are very different formats. So, which is the correct file type of the original video?
