Hi,
I have used winDVD on a previous pc running winXPhome SP2 no probs. Thats a dead pc now, use that same OS disc and SP2 on a new PC, and winDVD4 plays sound but not picture. Ditto Windows Media Player. However my video editing progs Adobe Premiere Pro and Videoredo do play the files.
The problem files are mpg. Yesterday I managed to get an avi to play, then some mpg's, but then later they wouldnt play.
The mpg files are starting life as recordings from broadcasts or vhs tape capture, onto a Panasonic DVD/HD combo. transferred via DVD-RAM disc to PC, quickstream fixed in Videoredo, then saved as mpg. I have many and they all played on the previosu PC with WinDVD4 and in WMP. Now they wont, apart form the short spell when a few did, then later they didnt !
Some would then only show themselves on WMP. Its driving me nuts.
Have installed K-Lite codec pack, ticking everything !...no better.
I like the nav slow motion fwd back then frame by frame controls wheel etc in windvd4, I sue the stills capture facility. WinDVD4 gives me this. Later versions have had interface altered. Is this a known issue with windvd4, have you had such and does a later version resolve it.
How can I find out what codec it needs ? I had hoped K-Lite would do the fix.
