Virtualdub Error in opening a MKV file

Hi! I'm trying to convert a MKV file to AVI. I'm trying to extract the video, audio and subs using Virtualdub. However, I get this error message whenever I try to open it:

What's causing this? How do I fix this? Thanks!

Old age! VirtualdubMod is no longer being developed, and its Matroska support is incomplete; it does not support AVC, for example.

    Use MKVToolnix/MKVExtract GUI.
