    Difference between virtualdub & virtualdubmod

    Hi everyone

Could someone please help to enlighten me on the differences between virtualdub & virtualdubmod?

I've already done the following but still no subs appear when I play my vid with windows media player.

    1. Installed vobsub and check on components plugins
    - vobsub for directshow
    - vobsub for virtualdub
    - textsub for virtualdub and avisynth
    - utilities

    2. Selecting virtualdubmod as my plugin
    - both files vobsub_vd.vdf & textsub.vdf in plugin folders

    2. Enabled captions in the Windows Media Player
    - Play > Captions and Subtitle > English
    - Tools > Option > Security > Show local caption when present

Should I install virtualdub instead of using virtualdubmod as my plugin *confused*?

    Urgently need help!!!

    Thanks
    Paulyn

The vobsub and textsub plugins in the Virtualdub(or Mod) folders are only for encoding an avi with subtitles using Virtualdub(or Mod).
For viewing subs in media players you need VSFilter/Directvobsub.

Thanks paglamon for your fast reply

      I've both installed.

      1. I found vsfilter in the AVIRecomp folder
      2. As for directvobsub I found this in the Gabest folder after I installed vobsub. But different name though... directvobsub configure.

I find it strange.. when I play the vids with other player such as media player classic and gom player the subs work fine.. except windows media player.

grrrr but the subbing program (popsub) that I use can only play subs on windows media player, so no choice I've to get this straighten out.

      desparately need help!!!

      Thanks
      Pauline

What is popsub? Why do you need it?
BTW,when you play the video in WMP, is there a green-curved-arrow icon present in the taskbar?

          Hi paglamon

Popsub is a chinese version subbing program, I use it for my subbing work.
Hmmm there's no green-curved-arrow icon in the taskbar. I downloaded WMP version 11.

So Directvobsub is not working with your WMP. Can't you configure Popsub in such a way that it uses any other media player ?
