vdub compression and output

Using virtual Dub...

I asking for advice as how to output an AVI file with Mpeg4 compression.
I selected video filter and all processed fine but how do you save it as a file?
Saving as AVI changes nothing in file size.

Another question:
Is there a better Vdub program that allows a simpler User interface?
Or, has anyone created a 'skin' around vdub to use check boxes for simple selections and user interface?

I like Vdub but it's way too tech for me to understand all the features.
I bought number of video conversion, codec, and other editing programs and none does a better job than vdub.
Now, if I can just figure out how to make it a smaller file... and save it

Try Virtual Dub Mod, much simpler virtually the same prog and more versatile (not so good on the audio front), Did you select xvid under video/compression?
