    adding subtitles, saving won't finish

I've been using virtualdub to add subtitles to a movie. When I try to save it as an avi it gets 69% through the movie and then the i/o screens go grey and everything stops. I checked the original video file that I'm using and it seems to be fine. I tried using a different codec for compression and still got the same problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Can you just outline your procedure of adding the subs? Which filter are you using ? Can you give file info about the original( using Mediainfo) ?

I use a sub to ssa converter for Russian subtitles. I choose the filter (subtitler.vdf by Avery Lee) and then it prompts me to choose the file for the subs in the 'Subtitler Configuration' window. I leave 'Enable advanced rasterizer' checked and choose '{\q0}' for word wrapping mode. For the video compression I choose DivX 5.2.1 Codec and leave the video on 'Full Processing Mode'. For the audio I leave it as 'Source Audio' and 'Direct Stream Copy'. I save it as an .avi on an internal harddrive that is different from the drive that virtualdub is running on (I'm not sure how that last part could be a huge problem, but I figured I'd include it just in case).

Sorry about the separate post. For mediainfo it says:

Have you tried with the subtitle in .srt format ? Is the subtitle file OK ? You can check for .srt file errors in Subtitle Workshop.

I used .srt like you suggested, fixed it with Subtitle Workshop, and now it saves completely!
Now I just have to fix the timing of the subtitles but I'm sure I could find topics on that elsewhere in these forums instead of asking you more questions.
Thank you so much for your help!
