    AVI audio too quiet

I have a avi file that has a ac3 48000 16 bit 6 chan audio track but the sound is very low as it is concert footage. I would like to load it into virtualdub but wanted to ask how to increase the volume of this concert avi clip but maintain the feel of the concert and not have audio that is at a constant level after processing.

    thankyou in advance

Load the file in VD. Save the audio as wav. Load the wav in Audacity. Do whatever you need to do to get the acceptable volume. Save the edited wav. Then remux this wav into the avi using VD again.

I will try that. I already played with the source in VD I increased the volume by 10 db but when i save the file it goes from 660 mb's up to 5.3 gb. Why does the file size increase so much with that seeminly small change in volume?

You would have noticed that to change volume in VD you had to select Audio/Full processing Mode.As soon as you are in Full Processing Mode the audio is reencoded and if you do not specify the Compression parameters, VD will save the audio as Uncompressed PCM. Hence the increase in file size.

Firstly, thank you for your misplaced compliments.
Secondly, I am a beginner in the digital video world when compared to the likes of Cynthia.
Thirdly, and most importantly, I am a lazy person.

But then.....there is always a "someday".
