    .AVI file playback PLEASE HELP!!

    Hey,
I have a(what I think) is a serious problem. I playback a .AVI file and I have a grey screen, but i have sound. I have a lot of Codec's installed for .AVI files. This happens in all players and all movies I have. MPEG's work fine. Can someone please help me. I need to know what I need to watch my movies. I just got Resident Evil.
    Thanks,
    Alex

right click on the file and select properties.then clcik on the tab that says "details" it will tell you what video codec it was made with and you need that codec to play it.

"I have a lot of Codec's installed for .AVI files."

Uninstall all the DivX codecs. Then FIRST, reinstall (or install) the DivX v.3.11alpha codec. Then, if and when you determine that you MUST install an additional *different) DivX codec, do so. BUT, if you're going to install the DivX v.4.12 codec, answer with a resounding "NO!" when it asks if your want the 4.12 codec to play 3.11 files...
